About SMI

What is the Smoky Mountain Invitational?

The Smoky Mountain Invitational (also known as SMI) is a volunteer run, outdoor swim meet that takes place during the summer swim season in East Tennessee. It is attended by teams all across the Greater Knoxville Area and is a part of the GKAISA swim organization. SMI is also a “summer swimmer” only meet, meaning no swimmers who have swam in a USA sanctioned meet within the last year may participate.

The Smoky Mountain Invitational has been held for over 50 years, and is a highlight of the season for many swimmers. It is run and hosted by the Maryville-Alcoa Flying Dolphins swim team, and is held at Springbrook Pool in Alcoa, Tennessee.

Why Should You Attend SMI?

Year after year, we strive to put on the best outdoor swim meet in East Tennessee.

How Can I Attend SMI?

Firstly, your child/swimmer must be a part of a GKAISA swim team. Most teams attend SMI annually, and will canvas their teams for participation in the weeks prior to SMI.

If your team will not be attending SMI this year: you may reach out to us directly at smi@flyingdolpins.org and we will coordinate a way for your swimmer to attend.

Please note: all payments and registration will be handled directly through your team and their website. If you have a question about payment or registration, please contact your teams representative.
